About Rene von Richthofen
Through monochromatic color pallets, unique found objects, toy cars and conscious subject matters. Rene von Richthofen has established a unique and highly identifiable style that brings conversation to the art world.
von Richthofen is an Austrian born artist who currently creates in his privately owned studio in Palm Beach, Florida, alongside his renowned sculptor wife Jane Manus.
His love for cars comes from an early age, von Richthofen started collecting toy cars as early as the age of 5-years-old when living in Austria. At the age of 16, von Richthofen competed in an Austrian Hill-climb race with his first car, a Mini Cooper S and that was only the beginning.
Aside coming from a very art driven household, Rene von Richthofen has always been fascinated by automobiles and finding his inspiration from around the world. As he has adopted a broad perspective when it comes to art and travel, this allows the ideas for his works to flow easily.
Creating these objects allows him to escape from his hectic daily schedule and concentrate exclusively on the present moment, without the distraction of television or music. Sometimes these themes are combined into installations that feature automobile spare parts, children’s toys and model cars which allows each piece to be unique.
His work is part of a lifelong love affair from the craftsmanship and design of the automobile. From American horsepower, Italian design to Japanese technology and German perfection these meticulously thought-out creations continue to inspire the works of Rene von Richthofen
As a descendant of Manfred von Richthofen, the World War I fighter pilot, aka Red Baron, von Richthofen’s artwork makes a metaphorical statement about social and cultural issues from global warming to war and racism.
